inauguration poster

I started at looking at all the past presidential inauguration speeches and decided to go with Thomas Jefferson's speech that had "unite with one heart and one mind". I am attracted to speeches that speak out to the people instead of to the people, speeches that are inspirational more than political. Therefore this one saying stood out to me because its true we all need to unite as a country to make a better America. Nevertheless, for my poster project I want to have the feeling that this saying is going to unite people together. I made the U and the H bigger and bolder than the rest on purpose so they will stand out. they are both similar letter just flipped upside down. I connected them to show the viewer a connection with in my poster. I choose to italicize my words to show movement and to reiterate how we need to make a movement for us Americans to unite together. These are the basic thoughts at the moment I still have some more work to do to polish my final.

Final letterform composition

For the next step of the process we had to find a specific area that was most interesting and crop it out. I chose the end of my J and cropped out the top part of my composition. I wanted the end of the t to remain because the cropped composition would be to simple. The way they are going in different directions makes it more interesting. It was at first touching the side where the negative space was cut off, in the end I thought it would be smarted to let the negative space flow through out the composition to make the final more successful.

Letterform analysis

We combined to letters to make one that would flow evenly and equally make a new letterform. My combination was the j and the t. They are both simple but elegant together. They both when put together created a since of motion that captured my attention. Together they work well in unity.

Text in the environment

Project 1: Environmental Lettering- We had to find the structure of letterforms. Text is everywhere you just have to know where to find it. Text can be found in the environment if you are looking hard enough. These pictures are letterforms I have found in the environment. There is text everywhere you go as long as you know how to look for it.

What is defined as free? People and People like us, are we all really as free as we think we are? We all have freedom in some way but sometimes I think freedom has its boundaries. In this photomontage I wanted the viewer to feel the emotion of this image and wonder who these people are. I put the soldiers in the front because they represent the first soldiers, back when all they new of was going to war and fighting for their country. Then, the modern day people in the background are they really that much different as the people in the foreground? Have we changed all that much? We are still at war and right now that is all people are still thinking about and the same emotions that they felt hundreds of years ago are the same emotions that we are still feeling about war. I enlarged the guy with the flag because he plays into what the montage is about, fighting for what he believes in. The train was something I really enjoyed looking at I really wanted to add the train in my composition because it reminds me of a journey or waiting on freedom to actually come. "When is the Freedom Train coming." I wanted to announce all these images so that the viewer can understand why they are so important in my composition. It is very complex but I wanted it to be that way because freedom is complex also.
